DesChamps' Black Creek Beagles

Its Our Passion

           Black Creek Casper

Welcome to Canada's Black Creek Beagles:

             "Black Creek Beagles "

My Father introduced me to hounds years ago, this led to something I really enjoyed. We would run the dogs steady every week, we were more into the big hounds then. I purchased a couple of beagles in my early 20's, had a couple real good ones, from then on I got hooked on beagles. Been running beagles over 20 years now. There is nothing like hearing the dogs tongue. I love training pups and watch them progress to become masters at what they were bred for. Dad is a co-owner of Black Creek Beagles. He works hard tending to beagles making sure they are well attended too. Our Kennel is located in Brouseville north of Cardinal on Dad's property. We are both avid deer hunters, spend alot of time together both hunting and visiting. Dad is very instrumental in the success of our kennel, always supporting me what ever I do. We are father and son, also best friends, this I cherish.

We are dedicated to owning and breeding only the best CKC/AKC/UKC Beagle Dogs. We do not breed for the money, just looking for the best all around beagle for our companionship and hunting needs.

We live in Cardinal, Ontario Canada located next to the St. Lawrence River.  The fox pen is a family outing that we all enjoy.
We spend alot of time training our beagles on fox  making sure the beagles are well exercised and in great condition. I am also a member of the Ottawa Valley Beagle Club, there my dogs are trained on running rabbits. For the last couple years I have been trialing on both hare and fox.I enjoy both formats, I believe to do well on both fox and hare you have to have a dog that excels with foot, bottom, hunt and nose.

A very good friend of mine Paul Hutton who owned and operated Flyin Red Fox Hound Kennels has helped me alot, always there to answer questions, he has alot of knowledge, been an avid trialer for years and years. He sold me my first real dog box for a truck I didn't own yet. So had to go and buy a truck for the dog box. My first breeding was to one of Paul's dogs Billy The Kid (Black Billy), there I ended up with my first Black Creek Dog (Popeye). All kidding aside, Paul has helped me alot getting started in the trialing world. Paul and Mike Veltkamp took me to my first trial, I have been hooked ever since. Thanks Paul.

One of my best friends and mentor is Dan Kane. Dan has taught me alot about dogs, shares history and knowledge of the sport. He is a true leader, makes my decisions much easier to make with my breeding program, etc. Dan has been a judge for many years, considered to be one of the best, he sees things in dogs you would never notice or pick up on, he pays attention to detail, a perfectionist at heart. His kennel is known all over Canada and the United States "Happyrun Kennel", his dogs are masters at any format, not a popularity breeder his breeding program is second to none, I enjoy running with Dan, I have a bench mark to strive for. With years and years in the sport he has alot to share with newbies, he is always good to take the new people in the sport and help them along, making them feel comfortable, sharing many many stories, lets you tag along to trials with him, he will not evaluate your dogs unless you ask him, be ready for the truth as Dan is honest as the day is long, he gives you the truth in a nice way. One of the hardest workers I know, not one to sit back, always giving more than he has ever received in what ever he does. A big accomplishment for the beagling world was when Dan reconstructed Beagles Canada website from scratch, with hours and hours of organizing, getting things in place, compiling the data, we now all enjoy a new Beagles Canada Website. We are all lucky to have such a person who dedicates alot of his free time, his life for the love of the sport that we all enjoy and benefit from. Thanks Dan for all you do for me.

We hunt in the Leeds and Grenville area, our hunting camp is located in Limerick Forest surrounded by thousands of acres of ministry land. There we hunt rabbits and deer, also the odd coyote.

I obtained Veltkamp's Roxie from Veltkamp's Beagles, the first time I saw her run I knew I had something special. She has intelligence, very strong desire and fast speed. Once researching her pedigree, its evident why she is as good as she is. I owe a big thank you to Veltkamp's Beagles owner Mike Veltkamp! Mike has been very good to me, helping my along, I have stuck close to Mike's pedigree lines.

My good friend Chris Lloyd helps me training the dogs and spends alot of time training and hunting over the dogs in the wild. He enjoys running the dogs bringing out the best out of each and every dog. Chris houses most of the females and is a  big help with the success of Black Creek Beagles. Chris and I share alot of laughs together.

Owner of Bigj kennels Jason McKinnon and I are good friends, he got into the sport shortly after me, we share information talking dogs, his kennel is located just North of Cardinal. Jason and I attend most trials together, he has been a great help taking dogs to trials. We run together quit often. Jason has enjoyed really good success considering we have not been at the trialing very long.

One of my mentors is John Bell, John has been very good to me. He is a close friend, travel to trials together often. John has enjoyed alot of success over the years trialing on Fox and Hare. I have alot of John's breeding in my kennel. We work back and forth with dogs, each of us opening our kennels to breed back and forth. Thanks for everything John.

I have stayed close to Dan Kane's breeding, Mike Velkamp's breeding, John Monkman, Roy Mays, John Bell and Coady McDonald. All these gentleman have enjoyed great success in the sport. Hopefully someday I will be enjoying the same success.

We love to hear the dogs run and enjoy the chase!
